Tsali North Carolina Left Loop and Right Loop

tsalith

The first time I started on the Tsali Loops was the "perfect storm" for a mountain biker's nightmare, within 15 min. I got stung just above the knee by a hornet that got caught under my shorts, stung like hell, but I pushed on. I just passed the 6 mile marker, when on a slight downhill I got a bit carried away, and on a minor jump, I blew both my inner-tubes and had to walk 5 miles back to the trail head, I always carry 2 spare tubes on a trail, but 2 weeks ago i gave one away to a fellow biker … [Read more...]

Smoky Mountain Bicycles Franklin NC

smbike

Smoky Mountain Bicycles Franklin NC The first time I entered "Smoky Mountain Bicycles" I was very impressed, but this time around, I was not there for my bike, or parts, I was there for some trail info. I was advised by the "Great Smoky Mountains Visitors Center" to pay Smoky Mountains Bicycles a visit to get all my questions answered about Trails in the Franklin area. On my travels, I have before, been sent to the local bike shop for info and maps, just to get a big zero on info. Luckily … [Read more...]

>> South Mills River >> Cantrell Creek >> Squirrel Gap >> South Mills River >> Buckhorn Gap >> Black Mountain >> Avery Creek >> South Mills River Trail : For the second time in a week, I was dropped off on SH 280 at the beginning of TurkeyPen Road, I then cycled to the South Mills Trail head to start my Pisgah Epic. Started the ride at 9.am, and reached the South Mills Trail head about 20 min later. There were already numerous horse trailors at … [Read more...]

Daniel Ridge Loop Pisgah North Carolina

Daniel Ridge Loop. I did this loop both clock and counter, but would recommend doing it clockwise, unless you really like mean rocky and bumpy descents, if this is the case then do it counter clock. The trail is well marked and starts from a parking, just go around the closed gate and follow the gravel road over a bridge. At this point the decission  is yours for a clock or a counter. i did both, and prefered the clock. The first 10 min. is an easy breeze along a graveled path that will … [Read more...]

Turkey Pen Gap – Black Mountain and a Rattlesnake with anger issues

turkheadth

Turkey Pen Gap >> Black Mountain Of all the trails I have ever rode, and all the (minor) accidents I have had, I have never been as scared as I was on this trail, and it had nothing to do with steep downhills, or jumps or baby heads, dragons teeth, nope, it was all due to a massive beefy rattlesnake with anger issues!!! I was dropped off on SH 280 at the beginning of TurkeyPen Road, I then cycled to the trail head to start my Turkey Pen Gap and down Black Mountain Adventure..  As I … [Read more...]

Club Gap Black Mountain and a Black Bear

clubth

Club Gap >> Black Mountain Got an early start just off Highway 276 about half a mile up 477 was the start to Club Gap. This single track starts with an immediate but easy climb, this however is just a teaser, 'cos it soon gets a lot harder. Although it is not really a steep climb, the baby heads make it a lot harder than it looks. After about 20 min. you reach the the cross trails of Buckwheat knob >> Avery Creek >> Club Gap and Black Mountain. I took a left onto "Black … [Read more...]

Black Mountain Trail Pisgah State Forest

bmth

The notorious Black Mountain Trail in the Pisgah state Forest North Carolina. Ask any mountain biker what is the "must do trail " in NC and they will all say "Black Mountain" with a smile on their face, I didn't know if it is an evil smile, like wrapping up a Pork Chop and giving it to a vegetarian for a gift kinda smile, or a Oooh yeah that brings back fond memories kinda smile! So it was time to find out what all the fuss is about, and the only way to do that was to put the rubber to the … [Read more...]

Big Rock, Cedar Rock, Little River and Burnt Mountain Mayhem

BRth

Yesterday, I picked up my bike, that has had a new crank set, chain and cogs fitted, a big thanks to the Guys at bike shop  The Hub, they did an excellent job. I had planned to do the "Black Mountain" Trail in the Pisgah State Forest. I set the alarm for 6 o clock to get an early start, on the way to the Trail, just as I entered Brevard it started pissing down. I hate turning my back on a trail, especially when I'm actually at the trail head, so I waited another 20 minutes, and decided that … [Read more...]

In the second week of July 2009, I will have been testing the Giant Yukon FX  for a whole year. 2008 was the Mountain Bike Madness 2008 Tour, we did the best trails in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Washington State, Oregon and Utah. Helm Cam Video of Burnt Mountain North Carolina

Burnt Mountain Trail, is a small but very nice loop in the DuPont State Forest, one of many that can be combined to make an excellent 4-5 Mountain Bike Epic of the area. This footage was taken on the downhill section of the trail. This loop was done anti clockwise. The downhill is an easy grade 2+, but caution is definitely needed on this fast singletrack. These trails are shared by walkers and horse riders, so extra caution is needed. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy9uMhgav5Q … [Read more...]
