Most mountain bikers in the USA, and even abroad know of, or have heard about Crested Butte's 401 trail. While doing my research for the "Gunnison / Crested Butte trails, I probably read 100's of excellent comments and remarks about the 401. Turkey Pen Gap >> Black Mountain Of all the trails I have ever rode, and all the (minor) accidents I have had, I have never been as scared as I was on this trail, and it had nothing to do with steep downhills, or jumps or baby heads, dragons teeth, nope, it was all due to a massive beefy rattlesnake with anger issues!!! Yesterday, I picked up my bike, that has had a new crank set, chain and cogs fitted, a big thanks to the Guys at bike shop  The Hub, they did an excellent job. I had planned to do the "Black Mountain" Trail in the Pisgah State Forest. In prepration for my 2009 Mountain Mayhem Tour USA, I spent a few months in the Dordogne, S.W France. I hooked up with my M8 "Duke" who runs an outdoor  buisness taking people on hikes, canoe trips, horse riding, caving and Mountain Biking.
